No more old copper landline. Just one connection and zero stress.

Understanding your TalkTalk Digital Voice adapter

What is the Digital Voice Adapter and how does it work?

The TalkTalk Digital Voice Adapter connects your home phone to your broadband service, allowing you to make and receive calls over the internet.

As traditional copper phone networks are retired across the UK, Digital Voice provides a modern way to keep your home phone service running. The adapter acts as the bridge between your broadband connection and your telephone handset.

Without the adapter, you won't be able to access your Digital Voice telephone service.

Key benefits of Digital Voice

  • Keep using compatible home phones
  • Clear, reliable call quality
  • No traditional landline socket required
  • Easy setup with your TalkTalk broadband service

Step-by-step help connecting your Digital Voice Adapter

Connecting the adapter to Your TalkTalk router

Follow these simple steps:

  • Connect the power cable to the Digital Voice Adapter
  • Connect the Ethernet cable from the adapter to an available Ethernet port on your TalkTalk router or eero device
  • Wait for the power and internet lights to stabilise
  • Connect your telephone handset or cordless phone base station to the phone port on the adapter

Once connected, your Digital Voice service should be ready to use.

Important: Do not connect your phone to the old master telephone socket. Your phone should be connected directly to the Digital Voice Adapter.

Connecting your home phone to the adapter

Using a standard corded phone

Plug your telephone directly into the phone port on the Digital Voice Adapter.

Using a cordless phone system

Plug the cordless phone base station into the phone port on the adapter. Any additional handsets connected to that base station should continue to work normally.

Using multiple phones

The Digital Voice Adapter supports a single telephone connection point. If you're using a cordless phone system with multiple registered handsets, those handsets can continue to operate through the connected base station.

Maximising your TalkTalk Digital Voice experience

Setting up and accessing your voicemail

Good news. Your TalkTalk Digital Voice voicemail works much like a traditional landline voicemail service.

You can:

  • Listen to new messages
  • Save important voicemails
  • Delete messages you no longer need
  • Manage your voicemail settings

Simply use the same voicemail access methods and features available with your TalkTalk home phone service.

Using Digital Voice call features

Digital Voice supports many of the call features you already know and use.

Depending on your package, available features may include:

  • Caller Display
  • Call Waiting
  • Call Divert
  • Call Barring
  • Voicemail

These services work in the same way as your existing TalkTalk phone service.

Using answering machines

If you use an answering machine, connect your telephone system as normal through the Digital Voice Adapter.

For the best experience, make sure your answering machine's response time doesn't conflict with your voicemail settings.

Troubleshooting your Digital Voice Adapter

If your Digital Voice service isn't working correctly, follow these checks:

Make sure:

  • The adapter is powered on
  • All cables are securely connected
  • The Ethernet cable is connected to the router
  • Your phone is connected to the adapter, not the wall socket

Digital Voice depends on your broadband connection. If your broadband isn't working, your phone service may also be affected.

  1. Turn off your phone
  2. Restart the Digital Voice Adapter
  3. Restart your router
  4. Wait a few minutes for services to reconnect

If the issue continues after checking your setup, our support team can help investigate further.

Poor call quality

Poor call quality can sometimes be caused by:

  • Broadband connectivity issues
  • Loose cables
  • Older telephone equipment
  • Temporary network interruptions

Try restarting your broadband equipment and checking all physical connections.

Will my existing phone work?

Most modern home phones are compatible with Digital Voice.

Some older telephone handsets may not be supported. If you're experiencing issues with an older phone, try testing with a newer handset if available.

Moving home with Digital Voice

Taking your Digital Voice service with you? No problem.

Your home move process works much the same as it does today.

Once your broadband service is live at your new address:

  1. Connect your router
  2. Connect your Digital Voice Adapter
  3. Connect your phone

If you're receiving a new telephone number, it will become active once your new services are up and running.
