Real-time scanning protects your computer by scanning all files when they are accessed and by blocking access to those files that contain malware.
When you are installing F-Secure SAFE on your Mac computer, the software needs to make changes to your system to enable real-time scanning. To enable this system change, you need to allow the new system extension to load. If you fail to enable the extension, the real-time scanning feature is turned off and your computer is not fully protected.
During the installation, the< System Extension Blocked dialog is shown indicating that a program tried to load a system extension signed by F-Secure Corporation. To enable the extension:
- On the dialog, select Open Security Preferences . The Security & Privacy window opens
- On the General tab, select Allow
This allows F-Secure's system extension to load, and your computer is fully protected.
Note: If you didn't enable the system extension during the installation, you can still do it as soon as you have activated the product:
- Open SAFE and select the Enable real-time scanning for full protection link. The Allow new system extension from F-Secure dialog will open
- On the dialog, select Security & Privacy . The Security & Privacy window will open
- On the General tab, select Allow
This allows F-Secure's system extension to load, and your computer is fully protected.
A pop up warning will appear with a more detailed explanation
"Allowing notifications from F-Secure SAFE is necessary to be a be aware of intercepted malicious activity, receive important product notification and more. Allow notifications by enabling F-Secure SAFE in the notification section of the system preferences app."
